Pendant Care

Peregrine Pendants uses authentic coins that consist of various combinations of metals (such as alloys of silver, gold, bronze). A coin’s reaction to its environment will depend on it’s exact composition. A gold coin, for example, will be much more resistant to change than a bronze coin. A silver denarius from the Roman Empire could be resistant if it was struck during the first century AD, because it will have a very high silver content (around 90%). After that time, however, the silver content dropped significantly and these coins are more easily influenced by external elements. Most importantly, bronze coins that have attained a patina (green, red, brown) will change to a darker color even when exposed to very little amount of moisture.

Keeping in mind the wide variety in coin compositions in our collection, we recommend that you please follow the general guidelines for any coin pendant bought from us.

Avoid moisture on your pendant

We do not recommend showering, swimming, engaging in sporting activities and any other situation in which the pendant can get wet. That includes moisture from sweat when wearing the pendant directly on your skin. If your pendant does get wet, it should not be a problem. These coins have been through a lot to get to where they are. Simply make sure that you wipe the coin off with a polishing or microfiber cloth to prevent water from drying out on the coin.

Polish the pendant mount

With respect to the sterling silver and 148 gold pendant mounts, we recommend the following. Tarnishing of your silver pendant mount may occur when it is not worn over a long period. We recommend you simply wipe off the mount with a polishing cloth. Gold pendant mounts will be less likely to tarnish, but can lose their shine over time. Again, we recommend using a polishing cloth to give it back its shine.

Don’t use cleaning products

Please do not use any cleaners such as at-home jewelry cleaners, steamers, or ultrasonic machines on your pendant. These devices are not meant to clean ancient coins.
